Create reusable PushWave audience segments

Save subscriber filters as dynamic or static audiences for broadcast targeting.

In the appPushWave → Segments

Supported filters

  • Countries, browsers, and device types.
  • Subscribed within the last number of days.
  • Inactive for at least the specified number of days.
  • Subscription page containing a partial URL.
  • Subscriber language.

Dynamic versus static

Dynamic segments recalculate their audience from the saved rules. Static segments keep a snapshot count. Use Recalculate when you need the saved segment count refreshed.

Selecting a saved segment in the broadcast wizard prefills its rules. Additional filters in the broadcast still apply.

Why segmentation improves push performance

Not every subscriber reacts the same way to a broadcast. A subscriber on a slow connection in one country, or one who has not engaged in weeks, behaves differently than a recently subscribed, highly active visitor. Segments let you target the right group instead of sending every notification to your entire subscriber base.

Because segments can combine country, browser, device, recency, and subscription page filters, they let you build audiences that map to real product or content differences, such as visitors from a specific landing page or subscribers inactive long enough to warrant a re-engagement push rather than a standard broadcast.

Building segment strategy

Start with a small number of broad, reusable segments rather than a large number of highly specific ones; “active in the last 30 days” and “inactive 60+ days” cover most re-engagement use cases without constant upkeep. Use dynamic segments for anything based on recency or activity, since a static snapshot will not reflect new subscriber behavior.

When selecting a saved segment inside the broadcast wizard, remember that additional filters applied at send time still narrow the audience further, so review the combined result before sending. Recalculate a segment before a major broadcast if its rules depend on recent activity, so the count reflects current subscriber state.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use a static segment instead of dynamic?
Static segments suit a fixed snapshot audience, while dynamic segments suit ongoing rules like recency or inactivity.
Do broadcast-level filters override a saved segment?
No, additional filters applied in the broadcast wizard narrow the saved segment further rather than replacing it.
How often should I recalculate a dynamic segment?
Before any major broadcast that depends on current activity, so the audience count reflects up-to-date subscriber behavior.
