Personalize Campaigns with Shortcodes
Insert contact data and controlled variations without leaving unresolved placeholders in sent mail.

Personalization sources
- Built-in and custom-field shortcodes
- Resolve values from the recipient and list data.
- Fallback values
- Provide safe replacement text when a contact value is empty, such as a neutral salutation.
- Spin tags
- Named sets of alternative phrases stored under Automation → Spin Tags.
- Spintax
- Inline alternatives written with balanced braces and pipe-separated values.
Review before sending
- Use a fallback that fits the surrounding phrase. “Dear Friend” and “Hi there” need different fallback words.
- Do not alter the exact syntax of a merge tag.
- Keep spintax braces balanced.
- Run the pre-send check; it detects malformed merge tags and unbalanced spintax.
